Ms Chitra Karve


RCVS Disciplinary Committee Member, Chitra KarveChitra Karve is a practising solicitor and an Independent Parole Board Member.

Her employment history includes three years as Director of Member Development and Practice at the Parole Board of England and Wales; Director of Equality and Diversity for London Probation; and, Head of Enforcement and Public Duty for the (former) Commission for Racial Equality (CRE).

Her regulatory experience includes sitting on the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s (SRA) Education and Training Committee, and as an external examiner for the SRA.

At the CRE, Chitra led on the use of the Commission’s investigation and enforcement powers and set the strategy and procedure for the implementation of the race equality duty.

At London Probation she led on community and external engagement as well as Serious Group Offending and Extremism, and also in bringing an equalities approach to a complex field of work. 

Her past work has included working at Liberty, the human rights organisation, as their Ethnic Minorities Human Rights Lawyer; as the Press and Parliamentary Officer of the Law Centres Federation; and, as Assistant to the Executive Secretary of the Anti-Apartheid Movement.

Chitra continues to support voluntary activities and is currently Chair of the non-governmental organisation Action for Southern Africa and member of the Steering Group for the Migrants’ Law Project.

Chitra is committed to ensuring a pragmatic but rigorous and fair approach to all her work.

In her limited spare time, she enjoys travelling, reading and socialising with friends and family.
