Advanced Practitioner status

The application window for 2017 is currently open and you can now apply via the 'My Account' area.

‘Advanced Practitioner’ is an official recognition of a veterinary surgeon’s particular knowledge and skills in a designated field of veterinary practice.

The list of Advanced Practitioners provides a clear indication to the profession and the public of those veterinary surgeons who we have accredited at postgraduate certificate level (Masters level 7), and who have not only demonstrated knowledge and experience in a particular area of veterinary practice beyond their initial primary veterinary degree, but who have also confirmed that they continue to be up to date in their field over and above our minimum requirements for continuing professional development (CPD).

The List of Advanced Practitioners, together with the List of RCVS Specialists, is published in the Register and on our website. You can download the list from the 'Related documents' box.

If you are a holder of a designated RCVS CertAVP or RCVS Certificate or other postgraduate clinical qualification at level 7, you could be eligible to apply.

Please note that from 2017, all new applicants must have completed the professional key skills requirement prior to application.  For more information and to view the eligiblity criteria, please download the Applicant Guidance Notes for the full details.
